Building and Grounds Maintenance

Westfield Gas and Electric/Whip City Fiber is seeking a Building and Grounds Maintenance.

This position performs miscellaneous maintenance and repair tasks on Westfield Gas + Electric buildings and properties requiring a variety of skills of less than journeyman level in carpentry, painting, plumbing, plastering, welding, sheet metal work, and other skilled trades. Performs other miscellaneous and keeps grounds in order. Performs other manual duties such as receiving and storing supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for performing maintenance tasks on all WG&E buildings and grounds, including grounds maintenance in non-hazardous areas in the Department’s distribution areas.
  • Responsible for performing visual inspections, within non-hazardous areas maintained by the Departments.
  • Performs custodial duties in all WG&E buildings and facilities.
  • Performs building and ground maintenance and inspection work, including but not limited to landscaping and snow and ice removal.
  • Operates mechanical equipment related to facilities maintenance duties.
  • Performs major and other project maintenance services periodically as may be assigned or as required such as paints interiors and exteriors, replaces/repaints building signs, moves furniture, performs incidental carpentry, repairs plumbing fixtures, conducts preventative maintenance tasks such as oiling bearings and servicing filters; seals leaks or holes and exterminates pests.
  • Performs regular inspections of mechanical systems and equipment; makes recommendations for necessary repairs; schedules and arranges routine maintenance of heating and other systems.
  • Performs routine maintenance and basic repairs on buildings and grounds maintenance equipment; performs periodic duties; including but not limited to changing light bulbs, restocking bathrooms and assists custodial staff as needed.
  • Responsible for overseeing the performance of contractors/vendors to ensure compliance with bid specifications and applicable state regulations/codes.
  • Responsible for snow removal on parking areas, walkways and entrances.
  • Picks up and delivers internal and external mail to and from department buildings as needed.

Qualifications and Entrance Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and equipment to clean buildings and furniture.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.
  • Working knowledge of all of the above.
  • Satisfactory attendance is a must.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain within three (3) months.
  • Hoisting License or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months.
  • Class B CDL license or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months is preferred but not required.
