Operations Engineer – Telecom

WG+E is accepting applications for the position of Operations Engineer – Telecom.

The duties and responsibilities include applying professional engineering skills and knowledge in connection with the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and administration of a wide variety of fiber-optic telecommunication distribution activities.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Planning, supervising, coordinating, and centralizing records and plans fiber to the home distribution systems.
  • Prepare reports for regulatory agencies as related to the fiber distribution facilities.
  • Develop and maintain specifications for equipment, materials, construction, and installation, including circuit maps and as builds.
  • Supervise engineering and non-engineering personnel.
  • Supervise the inspection of contractor activity.
  • Responsible for engineering activities, design, GIS, Scope of Work, Material Lists, Construction, Jr. Engineer Support and Training, Job Estimations
  • Assist in supervising and directing construction programs.
  • Supervise the testing and certification of Department personnel and contractors.
  • Supervise the preparation of construction standards.
  • Responsible for cost analysis of distribution projects.
  • Responsible for the acquisition of all necessary permits involved with construction activity.
  • Provide training and guidance for personnel assigned to work within the scope of these responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain all necessary logs, reports, and records required by the Superintendent’s office and regulatory agencies.
  • Research and explore new technologies related to fiber to the home utility.
  • Accept responsibilities and assignments common to Supervisory positions and perform related duties consistent with the scope of the position.

Qualifications must include:

  • B.S. in related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven industry experience within fiber to the home/business utility.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and supervise software programs and platforms used in the administration of distribution systems.  This would include, but not be limited to, Microsoft products, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Auto CAD, etc.
  • Ability to organize and prepare management information systems.
  • Ability to perform technical writing.
  • Supervisory ability.
  • Knowledge of the administrative and mathematical language; and conceptual skills consistent with the scope of the position.
  • Ability to express concepts and information graphically, verbally, and in written form.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices related to telecommunications industry.
  • Satisfactory attendance is a must.
  • Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License.
  • Ability to communicate responsibly.
