Quantitative Energy Supply Analyst

Westfield Gas + Electric is accepting applications for the position of Quantitative Energy Supply Analyst. Duties and Responsibilities include:

· Supports the Department’s electric and natural gas energy markets participation, including but not limited to electric supply offers and demand bids, natural gas nominations, data transfer, and invoice review and approval.

· Determines short- and long-range energy load forecasts, supply requirements, and estimated power supply costs.

· Develop and utilize position tracking and hedging applications.

· Provide quantitative recommendations to inform hedging strategy, procurement timing, rate design impacts, and long-term resource planning.

· Provide portfolio modeling and management reports.

· Engage in regular market assessments and identify environmental and political trends that may impact our financial position.

· Reconciles actual energy purchases, transmission and transportation charges with invoices received, in accordance with terms and conditions of counter party contracts.

· Assists with cost of service studies and rate tariff modifications.

· Develop, maintain, and continuously improve analytical applications, dashboards, and automation tools that support Energy Supply operations.

· Supports Departmental energy conservation and demand side management programs.

· Assist with departmental budgeting activities.

· Prepares reports and provides information on an as needed basis, as well as on a regular basis.

· Provide analytical support across divisions.

· Works cooperatively with customers, contractors, representatives of other departments and utilities in conjunction with the work.

· Continuously evaluate new data sources, modeling techniques, and analytical technologies to improve forecasting accuracy and portfolio management.

· Develop and maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.

· Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications must include:

EDUCATION

· Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; equivalent experience acceptable.

· Knowledge of the daily, monthly and longer term processes an electric utility conducts with ISO New England and energy suppliers preferred.

· Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS); MS Windows certification credentials highly desirable

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Works cooperatively with labor and management personnel alike.

· Demonstrated capabilities with advanced data analysis programming language, such as R and Python preferred, as are advanced data visualization skills.

· Develops complex spreadsheets, reports, graphics, and presentation documents.

· Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills and great attention to detail

· Strong quantitative analysis capabilities coupled with the ability to work under tight deadlines

· Ability to translate complex modeling results into actionable operational insights.

· Database programming and/or application development.

· Works autonomously, with flexibility, and excellent judgment.

· Communicates effectively in English, both verbal and written.

· Flexibility in scheduling and availability off-hours.

EXPERIENCE

· Office application software implementation

· MS Windows, MS Exchange, and backup system software.

· MS Office Suite and client/server development utilizing advanced databases

· Programming using advanced programming languages.

· Problem solving and decision making.
