Spring is the season of new beginnings, and as the days grow longer and the weather warms up, it’s a great time to refresh and prepare for the months ahead. At Westfield Gas + Electric/Whip City Fiber, we’re focused on ensuring your home has the essentials you need, from powering your patio lights to fueling your stove, and delivering the best connection for streaming the Final Four, we’ve got you covered.
This past month, we were proud to host an important electrical safety training for our team and local first responders, led by the Northeast Public Power Association, ensuring that when emergencies happen, we’re all ready to respond safely and effectively. We also had the privilege of welcoming arc flash survivor Rodney Walker, who delivered a powerful seminar highlighting the daily dangers faced by our field crews and the critical importance of proper personal protective equipment (PPE). This event was a collaborative effort with our local municipal partners from Chicopee, Holyoke, and South Hadley, reinforcing our shared commitment to safety in the communities we serve.
Spring is the perfect time for a little home maintenance. Start by checking your carbon monoxide (CO) and smoke detectors and replacing the batteries to ensure they’re working properly. We suggest doing this in the spring and fall, when you change the clocks forward and back. It’s also a good habit to change your air filters regularly. Dirty filters force your heating and cooling systems to working harder, using more energy to run which can increase your utility bill. Most filters should be replaced every three months, or even more if you have pets. And before that first heat wave, consider scheduling a professional tuneup to catch potential issues early and keep your home comfortable all year-round.
For those planning outdoor projects, don’t forget to call 811 before you dig for your own safety and to prevent damage to underground utilities. Whether you’re planting a tree, installing a fence, or starting a larger landscaping project, underground utilities may be closer to the surface than you think. Please review our Dig Safe page for more information about how to complete your digging project without unexpected hazards. Thank you for your help in keeping Westfield safe. We look forward to another great season together, if you have any questions or need assistance, our team is always here to help at 413-572-0100. Wishing you a wonderful spring with continued low rates!
Sincerely yours,
Tom Flaherty, General Manager
