Making Fuel Assistance Accessible

Eligible WG+E members can receive support for their winter heating bills! Valley Opportunity Council wants the town of Westfield to know about their Fuel Assistance Program this winter!

This program, also known as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), helps eligible households challenged by the high cost of home heating fuel pay a portion of their winter heating bills through a fixed benefit amount for the cost of the primary source of heat, which includes, but is not limited to:

Be the Next Ward 5 Commissioner!

Due to the resignation of the Ward 5 member of the Municipal Light Board, there is an opening to fill the term for the Ward 5 seat through December 2025. The City Council along with the Municipal Light Board is accepting letters of intent to fill the vacancy.

WG+E Encourages Customers to Prepare for Winter Energy Bills

Westfield Gas + Electric made the switch from summer to winter rates in November 2023. Good news: gas and electric rates are lower now than last winter! WG+E customers will see their winter gas bills decrease about 12% from the 2022-23 heating season. For the average residential customer, the January 2024 bill will be about $36 lower than last January. Electric rates which were adjusted in September, are about 12% lower, which is a $16 decrease per month for the typical household.

Fall Rate Reduction for Electric Customers

We’re happy to bring some good news to customers! Back on September 1, 2023, we introduced new lower rates which you may have already noticed on your WG+E bills. Customers are seeing a savings of nearly 20% off the energy supply portion of their bills, resulting in an 11% reduction overall. Commercial customers are also seeing this benefit with a 1¢/kWh savings on their supply charge. So, what does this look like for your bill? An average household bill which was $132 in August will decrease to $118 in September. Tom Flaherty, General Manager, says, “The rate reduction, which we expect to run into 2024, is part of WG+E’s commitment to providing affordable and reliable energy services to the community.”
